SHS COUNSELOR’S CORNER

1. With the summer temps here in Texas it’s hard to believe that the holidays are coming soon.  If your family could use some assistance for the upcoming holiday season please view the flyer here. 

2. Fall Day of Testing is coming on October 16^th.  On that day 9^th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 test.  10^th and 11^th graders will take the PSAT/NMSQT exam.  
    
3. Please follow the NEW Summit counseling office INSTAGRAM at @shsjagcounseling. Ms. Dewberry, our amazing new counselor, is posting valuable college, career, and scholarship information here. 

PSAT - Oct. 16th

• The PSAT is administered digitally so students must bring their school-issued Chromebook fully charged on that day.  They’ll also need to bring a charger with them. 
   
• Results from these tests provide insights into your child’s strengths, along with areas they can work on while still in high school.  Whether your child is thinking about attending a two- or four-year college, a job training program, or isn’t sure what they want to do after high school, the PSAT can help make their career goals and postsecondary path clearer.  Taking the PSAT also helps students prepare for the SAT and helps them find out what AP courses they might be ready to take. 
   
• On this day, many of our 12^th graders will be shuttled to Ben Barber to take the TSI, the college readiness test.  Others will participate in a senior activity here at Summit.  Some might choose to take a college day (which must be arranged with the college and their AP ahead of time)
